Securing the Tube

Minimize movement and pulling on the G-tube site to prevent trauma or leakage.
Always use a securement device for the tube, such as:
Grip-Lok or Cinch securement devices
Medical tape (e.g., Micropore or Hypafix)

Dress your child in onesies, one-piece sleepers, or overalls to keep the G-tube from being pulled out.
Use stretchy gauze/netting over the abdomen for added protection.
ACE bandage:
May be used like an abdominal binder.
Cut the wrap in half (across the width).
Do not wrap tightly, as this can press the G-tube into the skin.

Abdominal binder:
Provides extra support and protection.
Tape tag & safety pin method:
Attach a “tape tag” to the tube, then use a safety pin to pin it to patient’s clothing.
Always remove the safety pin first before undressing your patient to prevent accidental pulling.
