Wash your hands with soap and water before touching the G-tube site.
Use warm, soapy water on a Q-tip to gently clean around the G-tube once a day (or more often if needed). If there is crusting that is hard to remove, or if the skin around the tube looks red, you may use ½ strength hydrogen peroxide instead of soap and water.
Always rinse with plain water afterward.
Pat the skin dry with a clean towel or gauze.
After 2 weeks from the original tube placement/surgery, your child may have regular baths (they can be submerged in water).
Avoid heavily scented soaps or cleansers.
Do not apply ointments, creams, or medications to the site unless your healthcare provider instructs you.
