Feeding Through a PEG G-Tube

Supplies needed:
– Feeding pump
– Feeding pump tubing/bag
– IV pole
– Formula at room temperature.

Prepare
– Wash your hands.
– Hang the feeding bag on the IV pole.
– Fill the bag with formula (no more than 8 hours’ worth at a time).

Set Up Pump
Place the tubing into the pump.
– Prime the tubing (run formula through until it fills the line).
– Set the pump according to your healthcare provider’s instructions.

Connect to G-Tube
– Clamp the G-tube to prevent leaks.
– Connect the pump tubing to the feeding/medication port.
– Unclamp the G-tube extension set.

Start Feeding
– Start the pump and monitor while feeding is running.

After Feeding
– Flush the G-tube with water as instructed.
– Rinse the feeding bag and tubing with warm tap water.
– Replace the feeding bag and tubing every 24 hours (or as directed).
