Establish goals aimed at improving oxygenation and relieving distress.
Short-term goals:
– Patient will maintain SpO₂ > 92% with supplemental oxygen.
– Patient will demonstrate effective coughing and secretion clearance.

Warning symptoms before arrest
– Chest pain or palpitations
– Severe shortness of breath
– Sudden dizziness or fainting
Time critical:
– Brain damage can occur within 4–6 minutes
– Immediate CPR improves survival chances
